Hail is a frequently unrecognised danger in summer in Switzerland. One third of all building damage is caused by hail. The building insurers (GV) and the SIA are responding to this situation. The GV issues guidelines, keeps a hail register and raises awareness with campaigns and information. The SIA is updating the SIA 261/1 standard and integrating the new hazard map from the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology. This shows that the risk of hail has been underestimated in many places to date.
We at Feroplan, as overall planners of the building envelope, take into account the variety of all impacts and hazards on your façade in our planning. We define the standardised requirements for hail protection and advise you with our specialist knowledge of tested materials and products.
If there is no tested product available that sufficiently fulfils your vision, we will have hail tests carried out for you by accredited testing institutes and accompany the test, including iterations, through to certification and inclusion in the hail register.
For example, the architectural concept for the Rieter Campus project required the development of a new façade cladding with partial perforation. The path to certification was long, with iterations on the design and sheet thickness. However, the result was a product that was perfectly tailored to the concept and requirements. The optimisation made it possible to develop a cost-efficient and resource-saving product without compromise.
We would be happy to accompany you on this journey with our expertise to ensure that your façade is hail-proof.
